Jeff Jordan
Inducted in 2026
Jeff Jordan earned his bachelor's degree in music education from Florida Southern College, his master's degree in composition from the University of Kansas, and his doctorate in wind conducting from the University of Missouri-Kansas City. Following many years teaching public school music in Kansas and Florida, Dr. Jordan joined the faculty of Fort Hays State University, where he served as Director of Bands for 19 years. During his tenure, he conducted the Wind Ensemble and High Plains Faculty Band, led the Wind Ensemble in three appearances at the Kansas Music Educators Association Conference, and assisted with the marching band program. His teaching responsibilities included instrumental music education, composition, conducting, and horn studio. A committed composer and advocate for new music, Dr. Jordan had 24 original compositions premiered, 19 of which were written specifically for FHSU ensembles. His work reflected his belief that students grow most when challenged by music that stretches their abilities while remaining accessible and meaningful. Dr. Jordan was also deeply committed to supporting composers and music educators across the state. For many years, he served as Chair of the Kansas Music Educators Association Composition Competition, a role through which he encouraged creativity, excellence, and opportunity for emerging composers. In recognition of his lasting contributions, the competition was named in his honor in 2022. While his professional accomplishments were significant, what mattered most to Jeff was creating a lasting impact on lives. He took greatest pride not only in the students who pursued careers in music, but also in those who carried their musical experiences forward into other paths—often returning years later to share how their time in his classroom continued to shape them.
