Mike Quilling was born and raised in Denver, Colorado and graduated from
West Texas State University with a BME degree (1982). He taught music
in western Kansas for thirty-four years and while his main area of expertise
was instrumental music, he also taught vocal music, guitar, and mariachi.
Mike served two terms as KMEA SW District President (2002 - 2004) and later as KMEA President (2009). He also served as chair for the KMEA Teacher Recruitment/Retention and eight years as chair for KMEA Government Relations. Mike was honored to be selected as the KMEA SW District and State Teacher of the Year (2015).
