Melvin "Bud" Schuette

Melvin "Bud" Schuette graduated from Sabetha HS and holds BME from KS State Teachers College of Emporia and MME from University of Oklahoma. In 1996 he retired from teaching instrumental music after 27 years at Marysville, KS. He taught in Claflin, KS his first 4 years. Mr. Schuette was active in KMEA serving as District III president and on KMEA Board of Directors. He is a charter member of KBA and served in various offices over the years. He was selected as KS Bandmaster of the Year in 2003 and Marysville Rotary Teacher of the Year in 1989. As a student at KSTC he was member and leader in Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, band president for two years, and was selected for Who's Who in American Colleges and Universities. Bud is active as a church leader and musician at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Marysville. He continues to remain musically active by conducting and performing with Marshall County Community Band and serves on the band board of directors. He also performs with a brass ensemble comprised of former students and sings with the community chorus. The Marysville marching bands appeared twice in Cotton Bowl parade in Dallas, TX, in Fiesta Bowl parade in Phoenix, AZ and Cherry Blossom parade in Washington D.C. The Marysville jazz ensemble performed twice for the Kiwanis International Convention in Denver, CO and once in Miami, FL. The Marysville concert bands received a "I" rating in every KMEA festival they participated in over a 27 year period.
