David S. Stuewe
Inducted in 2001
Davis S. Stuewe was raised in Alma, Kansas where he
began playing trumpet and received the Bachelor of
Science in Music Education from Kansas State
University. He served in the United States Air Force and
taught at Riley Rural High School and Norton. His
bands appeared at five Big-Eight football games and
performed at In-Service Workshops in 1997, 1981, and
1986. Stuewe was honored by the Kansas
Bandmasters Association and Phi Beta Mu as the
outstanding Kansas band director. He was recipient for
a Teaching Excellence Award presented by USD #211
in 1980. Other awards include the John Philip Sousa
Award in 1988 presented by the Sousa Foundation. He
was a 32 year member of the LeBlanc Advisory Board
and co-director of the Kansas State Lion's Band for
three years. In 1998, the students of Norton Community
High School began the Dave Stuewe Instrumental Music
Education Scholarship in his honor.
