Donald Corbett

Donald Corbett graduated from Wichita North High School, received the Bachelor and Master of Music Education from Wichita University, and the Doctor of Education degree from The University of Kansas. His forty years of teaching music in Kansas included 16 years in the public schools of Ashland, Haven, and Hutchinson, and 24 years at Wichita State University, where he was named university Emeritus Professor upon retirement. Dr. Corbett served KMEA as President from 1971 to 1973, and was named Executive Director in 1991. He was President of the seven-state Southwestern Division of MENC (1979-1981) and was national President of MENC (1986-1988), when he traveled more than 300,000 miles on behalf of MENC. He served on 12 national committees for MENC. Dr. Corbett served as a consultant to the Yamaha Corporation, NAMM, and NASM. He was co-editor of two major MENC publications: Teaching Stringed Instruments, and Teaching Wind and Percussion Instruments. Dr. Corbett received 11 citations for distinguished service to the profession, adjudicated and guest conducted extensively, and conducted the Kansas Ambassadors of Music Band on European tours for 15 years.
