Gerald M. Carney

Gerald M. Carney was professor in music education at The University of Kansas for twenty-nine years, retiring in 1974. A student of the eminent horn teacher, Max Pottag, Carney developed many performers who went on to play professionally. At The University of Kansas he taught instrumental methods, private and class brass, and supervised student teachers. He was associate director of the Midwestern Music and Art Camp and director of the camp orchestra. He organized the Lawrence Light Opera Guild and served as its musical director for many years. He was president of KMEA from 1968 to 1970.
