Suzanne "Sam" Stricklin
Inducted in 2011
Suzanne Stricklin was a band director in the Stillwell/Blue Valley Schools for 36 years. She founded and continues to administrate the centralized music library for Blue Valley School. With a passion for music that is contagious, Suzanne has high expectations for excellence and produced exceptional band year after year. Her bands earned superior ratings at Kansas Regional and State Music Festivals, Worlds of Fun Music Festival, and Music in the Park. In addition they frequently performed at KMEA In-Service Workshop. Suzanne served for many years as secretary of Northeast District. She is a member of MENC, KMEA, KBA, Phi Beta Mu, Kansas City Flute Association, and Overland Park Civic Band. Suzanne is on staff of Kansas and International Lions Bands, High Plains Band Camp, Midwest Music Camp, and John Philip Sousa Band. As a professional flutist she maintains a private flute studio that produces All-State flutists year after year. Ms. Stricklin is the first to volunteer to organize a festival, serve as pre- festival clinician, or tutor a flute sectional. Her generous spirit teamed with her penchant for excellence and combined with her quick wit has caused her to influence and inspire musicians for decades. Many of Suzanne's school and private students have gone on to professional music and music education careers.
