Phyllis Glass
Inducted in 2000
Phyllis Glass was born and raised in Fort Smith, Arkansas and graduated from Little Rock High School. While in high school Phyllis attended the Midwestern Music and Art Camp and later became a staff member; she continues to support the camp with bassoon scholarships. Ms. Glass holds the Bachelor of Music Education and Master of Music Education degrees from the University of Kansas. Phyllis taught band in Valley Falls, Kansas for one year and spent thirty-nine years in Shawnee Mission Public School District teaching band, developing a centralized music library and supervising music teachers. Phyllis plays bassoon in the Kansas City Civic Orchestra and the Overland Park Band. She is active as an officer of the Kansas City Double Reed Society and a member of Alpha Delta Kappa and Mu Phi Epsilon. Ms. Glass has served as President of KMEA District I, and on national MENC committees.
