Gary Fletcher
Inducted in 1994
Gary Fletcher is a native of Kansas and attended Wichita Public Schools. He received the BME and MME from Wichita State University. Fletcher was assistant director of the Sixth Armored Division Band in the Army. He then played horn with the Virginia Symphony Orchestra. Fletcher taught in Norwich, Kiowa, and Andover. He taught 19 years in Newton and played horn with the Wichita Symphony Orchestra. Fletcher taught 13 years in Wichita and was director of bands and orchestras at Pleasant Valley Middle School. Fletcher conducted the Newton Civic Orchestra and the Camerata Musica in Wichita. He was a clinician and host-educator for the MENC-Ford Foundation Contemporary Music Project, and his bands and orchestras have performed for KMEA conventions. Fletcher was active as a published composer of string music and jazz compositions.
