Joseph J. Weigand

J. J. "Joe" Weigand was born and raised in Emporia. He attended Emporia State Teachers College majoring in violin and music education. He took his master's and doctoral degrees in music education from The University of Kansas. Weigand taught in St. Mary's, Kanopolis, Hanover, Solomon, and Lawrence. He also held positions at the Chanute Community College and Emporia State University. While at Emporia, he was band and orchestra director at the Roosevelt High School. He was guest professor at the University of Michigan, the University of Idaho, and the University of New Mexico. He served as secretary for the KMEA and for many years was editor of the Kansas Music Review. He was a prolific writer on music education and served as a member of the editorial committee of the Journal of Research in Music Education.
